Celebrities for Cetaceans! Tips and Twitters!

UPDATE  in GREEN as 11/16/14
JUST A QUICK NOTE:

This page will not change much in format for the singular reason that it is designed to be a simple quick reference to celebrities who have spoken out against animal abuse with a focus on cetacean genocide.  It will remain simple and for the most part free of graphics.

RT to me ANY celebrity who has confirmed on Twitter that they oppose cetacean massacre and I will add them.

Please welcome Andrew Cartmel @andrewcartmel    best known for his work on "Doctor Who" and Gates McFadden  @gates_mcfadden of "Star Trek: The Next Generation" to this list of celebrities who are against the mass murder of dolphins.

UPDATED ADVISEMENTS in Yellow as of 11/15/14
One thing I have been recommending others do is support with retweets or better yet, ORIGNAL tweets with links the work of all the actors listed below.   This does several things - first of all, it shows respect and gratitude and makes them want to engage in supporting our efforts even more.  They have the voices we wish we all had in this fight - a voice thousands or millions can see at a glance to the screens.  The other thing it does is spread their audience - it gives the free publicity to reach even more people the next time if you promote their work and bring others to it.

Please FOLLOW the actors and performers listed below and start making a point of making THEIR audience a bigger one for YOUR causes - in our case, ending cetacean slaughter.

That said - THIS WEEK I have the privilege to add @RyanPaevey of "General Hospital" and @janebadler a gorgeous actress and vocalist best known for "V", as opponents of #Dolphin slaughter.

Stop being a drive-by beggar of your own cause without long-term thinking.

Don't think of the thrill of the Retweet without thinking about increasing the effectiveness of the next one!

I was asked by animal activist and celebrity @CarolynHennessy to enlighten her about my organization and am posting a quick briefer here to highlight my efforts.  I don't have an organization per se but I do run the Facebook page, Day of the Dolphin USA (link to appear below) and these two pages that list celebrities who are opposed to dolphin slaughter, most visibly seen at The Cove in Taiji, Japan. I also post to a partner page where one can find tips for being a better activist on Twitter, where I have a good amount of experience about how to make it work.

TIPS FOR ACTIVISTS ON TWITTER
Edited with new advice and content 1/24/15!

** New item as of 3/17/2014

Some tips for approaching celebrities on Twitter ...

Respect is the first thing to keep in mind. Don't be upset if they "ignore" you.  Some celebrities do, in fact, enter their own tweets, some however, most often use an authorized person. Your favorite celebrity may care as much or more about the cause than you do but you are one of a thousand tweets the descend on them as soon as a post appears.  When you do get a RT - be very thankful.

Celebrities are driven people who have worked hard to be where they are and because of the that - they are also intensely busy people. They are needed in make up, for rehearsals, for public relations, on the set, in the studio and have a family/personal life too.

Please create a picture for them to RETWEET that is striking, informative, and NOT RACIST and you'll have more success in getting a message out.

I have been seeing requests to celebs to print out a sign and hold it up to show their support.  There ARE celebrities who will do this - we know of James P. Morrison of "Those Who Kill"  and "24" and Shannen Doherty - both of whom are activists to make the planet better who have done this but honestly... most won't.

Again, these are busy people who, if they are successful enough to want their attention, are NOT home or where they can do this. They are needed in make up, for rehearsals, for public relations stuff, on the set, in the studio... they have little downtime to stop, print out a poster that is big enough to be read, take a selfie and then publish it...

I would say 98% of the time... this is NOT going to happen.   Please create a file pic for them to RETWEET it and you'll have more success.

ONTO the actual mechanics:

PUT SPACES in your Tweets.  This is why mine is formatted as such;

We're compiling a list of celebrites opposed to the slaughter of dolphins.

May we include you?

#tweet4taiji

Feel free to copy, paste, and use that!

Being a REAL activist is not about being credited: it IS about the goal.

_____________________________________________________________

USE FULL WORDS - don't use text language.

Don't crowd the text with hashtags! One is enough. I suggest sticking wth #tweet4taiji . Or at the most  #tweet4taiji  and   #Blackfish  . Why have I surrounded that with extra spaces? To make it easier to cut and paste.

Send them a note of thanks if they do RT but don't repeatedly pester them for RTs.

I used to run an official "Trek" fan club with a partner - keep in mind celebs are humans with jobs that put them in the public eye - that's all. I've seen them upset, crying, exhausted, angry, confused, and the full gamut of being a person - they have their human limits.  It's better to get one or two RTs out of someone to a few hundred thousand people than have that person have you on AUTOMATIC IGNORE! Don't be Spongebob to your own Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy!

If you do get a celebrity to retweet you -

DO RETWEET and SUPPORT ALL THEIR WORK.

Not everyone likes everything and that's fine... what's not okay is not showing appreciation for those whose voices can be heard farther than yours who respond.

Supporting their work does two things! It shows you appreciate their support and by increasing their audience further - it gives them an even greater reach the next time they retweet you or someone else who supports your cause.

Not a hard and fast rule but if you are appealing to a celeb, sometimes it doesn help if you are a genuine fan or know something about them in RL you can utilize.

Send a group thank you to people who might all be on a particular show later on! I'm a fan of "General Hospital" (a soap opera here in the United States)  Who knows? By thanking William Devry, Jeffery V Parise, and Jon Lindstrom all at once... it might have started them talking to each other in real life to see what more they can do.

Doing that tells Jon Lindstrom that Jeffery V. Parise is a supporter of dolphins, and retweeted you, too.  The same applies to anything group!

And all that said... here is a list - that I'll keep building, of all the celebrities I know so far that we can ask for RTs or with whom we might want to share breaking news or updates or @SeaShepherd RTs!  If you have knowledge of someone I should include and can send me verification - please let me know to include them here.

That all said - these are the celebrities who are confirmed
as oppossed to the massacre of dolphins.

Those marked with **** are well known activist for animals rights, some for cetaceans in particular.

How do we know they are against cetacean slaughter, often Taiji in particular?

I have either heard them say so, seen pictures of them at rallys, seen them tweet about #taiji or the slaughter in general without asking OR... I have sent the tweet mentioined above personally and received a positive reply.
